im having the same issue of not being able to activate the portal... and yes i put water on the bottom of the frame, it just leaks out as if i didnt even have the mod installed, and yes, i also checked.. it is installed i have all the items available to me via creative/too many items. i just cant access the aether itself.
this is how i got to the aether, since the portal wont light install the not enough items mod. Once youve done this while you have the aether mod installed search "portal" in the item search bar with the (NEI) mod and you will see it has the heaven portal as a item number you then type /give (name) #-the item number. Once completed place down and you will be teleported to the aether and you will have a portal. YOUR WELCOME lol
i just found this out. there is a mod called aethercraft but it has nothing to do with the aether mod so if you cant open the aether portal then check the mod's name because if its aethercraft then you have downloaded the wrong mod.
I'm using the Aether 2 launcher and my minecraft look like it's pure vanilla. The glowstone portal won't work and i can't access ANY Aether item through creative. I must be doing something wrong. But what ?

There is an issue with Forge on 1.6.4 clients if you're using Java 8. It will not download correctly. Normally the legacyjavafixer would fix that issue with our launcher, but seems you are still having the issue. Manually download Aether II and ThreadedLighting on http://www.AetherII.com/downloads then find your where your .aether folder is located. It should be in the same place your .minecraft is if you use the Minecraft launcher. Basically %appdata% if you're on windows. Find .aether and open your mods folder. Then add the downloaded aether.jar manually to your mods folder. Also, don't forget to add ThreadedLighting!
